Encaustic is a versatile painting process that uses heated beeswax mixed with damar resin and pigmented color, applied in thin layers while molten and fused with a hot tool or heat gun to build luminous, textured surfaces. The artist will incise, embed paper, insert found objects, and reheat layers to reveal depth and create both subtle translucency and rich, tactile relief, making it uniquely suited for combining painterly gesture with sculptural presence and long-lasting archival stability.
